Community Health Education

Chair Yoga
Fridays, June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

Fee: $5/per person, per class. Relax your mind and body without worry of getting up and down on the floor. Improve muscle tone, enhance flexibility, and increase circulation and your feeling of well-being. This class will take place in the 3rd Floor Conference Room of Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus located at 600 River Avenue, Lakewood. Open Health Screenings
Wednesday, June 7 from 9 to 10 a.m.

Free. Do you know your numbers? Come out and have your glucose, blood pressure, bone density and body mass index (BMI) tested. After your screening, enjoy a heart healthy snack! This event will take place in the 3rd Floor Conference Room of Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus located at 600 River Avenue, Lakewood. Self Defense for Men & Women of All Ages
Thursday, June 8 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Fee: $15/five one-hour classes. Don’t be a target! This ongoing program is for men and women of all ages who want to learn to protect themselves from personal assaults, street attacks and abductions. A black-belt instructor will teach participants to use leverage and balance to stay safe. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. Brain Health Fair
Friday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Free. June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month. Come out to experience fun and creative interactive activities designed especially to promote your brain health and will include interactive brain teasers, food and prizes. Keynote speaker Melanie Vernacchia, APN, of the James and Sharon Maida Geriatrics Institute of Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, will present, “The Balanced Brain”. This program will be held in partnership with Social Community Activities Networks (SCAN) at St. Andrew’s Church located at 1528 Church Road, Toms River. Lunch & Learn: Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques
Monday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to noon

Let’s destress together! Join us for a discussion on the cause of stress, the impact that it may potentially have on your health, and ways to combat it with practical and proven relaxation techniques including guided imagery, deep breathing and adult coloring. The Best of the Garden State Film Festival – Better Health Members ONLY
Thursday, June 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free. Let’s have lunch and go to the movies! Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, and the Garden State Film Festival are proud to present “The Best of the Fest”, featuring an array of award-winning short films from around the globe. Join us for an afternoon of the best the cinematic arts has to offer from New Jersey’s Premier Independent Film Festival. Self Defense for Older Adults
Tuesday, June 20 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Fee: $15/five one-hour classes. Learn to protect yourself through exercise, balance and strength training. Brick Senior Outreach Services Vendor Fair – Brick Residents ONLY
Wednesday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event will include raffles, giveaways and lunch in addition to offering information about a variety healthcare providers and business in the area. The Community Health Education team from Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus will be on-site to provide health screenings and Better Health Senior Membership information – our participation is made possible by the Provident Bank Foundation. Dementia Resource Fair
Thursday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free. Caring for a loved one with dementia is challenging. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with area healthcare providers and services that are available to offer assistance for those impacted by this disease. Lunch will be served. This event is sponsored by Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey in partnership with the James and Sharon Maida Geriatrics Institute at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Provident Bank Foundation. Keeping your Grandkids Safe & Happy while in Your Care: Summer Kickoff & Sundae Party
Thursday, June 29 from 1 – 2 p.m.

Free. Are you caring for your grandkids this summer? Do you need to brush up on your child safety skills for the precious little ones in your family? Then you are invited to join us for a fun, interactive program which addresses the current trends in child safety in the home, outdoors and on the road. Your grandkids are also invited to join us in making a craft, bicycle helmet fittings, games, prizes and ice cream sundaes. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services, this ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person who is 60 or older living in Ocean County.
