Newark, New Jersey - August 30, 2013 – Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) has been voted as one of the Best Medical Centers in the Region in six specialties by U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals in New Jersey and the Metro Area for 2013 – 2014. The six specialties are: Cancer, Cardiology, Heart Surgery, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery.

NBIMC is joined by other Barnabas Health hospitals, Clara Maass, Monmouth and Saint Barnabas Medical Center, who were also listed as Best Hospitals, as well.

“We are honored to be recognized by U.S. News & World Reports for outstanding clinical services in six categories,” said John A. Brennan, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey and Executive Vice President of Barnabas Health. “These clinical specialties continue to be some of the hallmark services of The Beth, with overall good outcomes and services.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings were completed based on information provided by the American Hospital Association, which compiles data on hospitals in the U.S. based on surveys and other sources. Nearly 5,000 hospitals were initially considered in these rankings, which evaluate specialty as well as volume. Hospitals were ranked according to reputation, mortality, patient safety and other areas, including nurse staffing and technology.

U.S. News & World Report has also consistently recognized Newark Beth Israel Medical Center as among the nation’s top 50 hospitals for specialty care in Cardiology and Heart Surgery. The U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospital rankings identify hospitals that excel in medical and surgical care based on a variety of rigorous criteria.
