Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to Host One of Newark’s Largest Health and Wellness Fairs Event to Include Classes, Health Screenings, Fun and Food for Seniors, Adults, Youth and Children

NEWARK, New Jersey, September 5, 2013 – Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey will host their annual health and wellness fair on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from noon to 4 p.m. This year’s event will include classes, health screenings, workshops, fun and food for senior citizens, adults, youth and children. The fair, renamed last year, The Beth’s Annual Alma Beatty Health & Wellness Fair, as a tribute to longtime Community Affairs Vice President at The Beth Alma Beatty, is the medical center’s commitment to promote healthy lifestyles to the community.

“The Beth’s Annual Alma Beatty Health and Wellness Fair” is our premiere community event, drawing hundreds of people to participate in a day designed to promote healthy living,” said John A. Brennan, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey and Executive Vice President of Barnabas Health. “The health fair is also a great opportunity to learn more about our current and new health services and programs and to attend mini-workshops to learn more about how to how a healthier lifestyle.”

Participants in the health fair can register for free breast and vascular screenings, have their blood pressure tested and participate in a number of exercise activities, including Zumba, Line Dancing and exercise and fitness for senior citizens.

In addition, the Beth will offer three classes between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Each class will last 30 minutes. The classes are: 1) Heart Health and Stroke Prevention, 2) Nutrition for Healthy Kids and Families and 3) CPR. Pre-registration for the classes is encouraged. Free massages will also be offered. You must register for the massages, the day of the event.

Parents can also register for free concussion and cardiac screenings for youth as part of the Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment for Youth. This program is limited to the first 100 athletes. Receive a free gift when you register at the Health Fair.

In addition to screenings and classes, there will be a presentation by area high school bands and fun events for children; including face painting, bouncy ball and more.

The health fair will be held rain or shine on Osborne Terrace, off of Lyons Avenue.
