Patrick Anderson, MD, Named 2015 Healthcare Hero Physician of the Year by NJBIZ; Several Medical Center Finalist

Newark, NJ – July 21, 2015 - Patrick S. Anderson, MD, FACOG, Chairman, Department of OB/GYN and Director, Division of Gynecological Oncology, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has been named Physician of the Year at the 2015 NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes awards program. Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, MPH, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey (CHoNJ) in the Healthcare Professional of the Year category; Debra Brouwer, RN, CHoNJ in the Nurse of the Year category; and Morris Cohen, MD, Director of Neonatology on behalf of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at CHoNJ were also recognized as Healthcare Heroes finalists during an awards breakfast and ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, New Jersey.

Dr. Anderson, board certified gynecologic oncologist and Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NBIMC, specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers of the female reproductive organs. As a robotic gynecological oncology surgeon, after performing a robotic radical trachelectomy, a procedure to treat cervical cancer while preserving the uterus, one of Dr. Anderson’s patients became the first documented patient in New Jersey known to achieve a pregnancy after this innovative procedure. The Medical Center’s robotic gynecological surgeons, many trained by Dr. Anderson and his partners, make NBIMC’s decade old robotics program the most experienced in the region.

Dr. Anderson is at the helm of a comprehensive department which includes gynecologists, obstetricians, maternal fetal medicine specialists, urogynecologists, gynecologic oncologists and midwives and obstetricians who deliver over 3,200 babies and train 16 residents a year. The Department’s inpatient and outpatient services provide over 20,000 patient visits each year.
