Fourteenth Annual Steven A. Gelman Memorial Health Forum Will Be Presented Free in Livingston, New Jersey
(Livingston, NJ) – Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club will co-sponsor Matters of the Heart: Disease Prevention, Treatment and Recovery, an interactive educational program to be held in Livingston this Sunday, March 23rd at 7:30 pm. The program marks the Fourteenth Annual Steven A. Gelman Memorial Health Forum and is open to the public free of charge.
The forum will be held at Temple Beth Shalom, 193 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, in Livingston. Seating is general admission and no reservations are required. Topics to be addressed include recognizing the warning signs of heart disease, reducing heart attack risk, and treatment, recovery and support options for heart disease patients and their families. Audience members will have the opportunity to pose questions to the expert panel.
The guest speakers at Matters of the Heart: Disease Prevention, Treatment and Recovery include: Dr. Gary Rogal, Chief of Cardiology at Barnabas Health and Saint Barnabas Medical Center; Maureen Smith, Nurse-Manager of Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Saint Barnabas Medical Center; and Dr. Sabino R. Torre, Cardiologist and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Moderating the program will be Dr. Eric Handler, Medical Advisor to the Steven A. Gelman Memorial Health Forum and a trustee of the Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club.
“The statistics are clear – heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women,” said Mitch Berkey, program chair and Vice President of Temple Beth Shalom, the forum’s home. “Understanding the warning signs and steps available to prevent heart disease can help save lives,” Mr. Berkey added, “and we are very pleased that Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club are joining forces to provide potentially life-saving information to the community.”

The Steven A. Gelman Memorial Health Forum was formed in 2001 by the Men’s Club of Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, New Jersey to perpetuate the memory of Steve Gelman, its long time member and former treasurer, and to promote greater health awareness in the community. The Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club has won numerous international awards for programming excellence and presents the SAGMHF annually in Livingston.
