Sweet 16 - 16th Annual Miracle Walk To Benefit New Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Livingston, NJ – Twins Grace and Olivia Hayward surprised their parents when they were born eight weeks early at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Though weighing more than five pounds each, the girls were placed in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as they had an immature sucking reflex due to being born premature.

“When we were born, we stayed in the NICU at Saint Barnabas for two weeks as incredibly dedicated doctors and nurses watched over us to make sure that we were healthy and strong,” explains Grace and Olivia. “We are proud to call ourselves NICU babies and are so thankful for all the people working in the Saint Barnabas NICU who impacted our lives.”

Now active 15-year-olds, the twins just began their first year of high school, play soccer, dance, and love to bake. Along with their parents they are also active members of the Saint Barnabas NICU Family. Each year, they take part in the annual Miracle Walk. Proceeds from the walk benefit the Saint Barnabas NICU and have allowed the hospital to acquire the most technologically advanced items and equipment available to support this highly specialized field – ensuring that 1,100 premature and ill newborns each year receive state-of-the-art care. This year’s event will also raise money for a brand new NICU being built as part of Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s new Cooperman Family Pavilion.

“We love seeing all of the babies at The Miracle Walk that the NICU has helped and we see it as a way to show our thanks to the doctors and nurses, the girls add. The Miracle Walk is a reminder to us of how lucky we are to be alive and healthy today.”

Join the Hayward Family and hundreds of other parents and former NICU patients for the 16th Annual Miracle Walk on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 9:00 am, in Verona Park, Verona, NJ. The walk kicks off with lots of family-friendly activities, refreshments and entertainment including a DJ, face painters, balloon artists, characters and more. The scenic park has a stroller-friendly path to allow everyone in the family to get involved and make a difference.
