The Center for Asian Health at Saint Barnabas Medical Center to Hold Chinese Health & Wellness Fair

The Center for Asian Health at Saint Barnabas Medical Center will be holding a Chinese Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Ave, Livingston, NJ 07039. The Wellness Fair is a free community event with physician talks, health screenings, and demonstrations.

“At Saint Barnabas Medical Center, we are committed to providing high quality, safe and culturally sensitive care to our patients and their families,” states Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, President and CEO, Saint Barnabas Medical Center. “This Wellness Fair will address the specific health needs of our Chinese community,” he continued.

As a national leader in addressing Hepatitis B, the Center for Asian Health will be offering free Hepatitis B screenings. Su Wang, MD, MPH, Medical Director, The Center for Asian Health, is a national advocate in raising awareness and promoting testing for Hepatitis B. She will be speaking about the importance of Hepatitis B screening and will share results from a community program. Chronic Hepatitis B infection has a disproportionate impact on the Asian population and is the leading cause of liver cancer worldwide. Though the majority of the world is considered endemic for Hepatitis B, this disease has received little attention and up to 2 out 3 of those infected have not been diagnosed.

“In New Jersey, many people have never been tested and do not realize that they have chronic Hepatitis B. Because it can lead to liver cancer, early diagnosis and care is so important, states Dr. Wang.

The Tzu Chi Foundation has partnered with Saint Barnabas Medical Center to assist with the logistics of the day and provide volunteers for the Wellness Fair. “We appreciate the support of the Tzu Chi Foundation and all of their members who have volunteered to assist us at the Wellness Fair,” states Mr. Zieniewicz. “Saint Barnabas Medical Center is a healthcare leader in this region. By working together, we are able to address the health needs of our community,” said Jackson Chen, Executive Director, Mid-Atlantic Region of Tzu Chi Foundation
