Barnabas Health Institute for Prevention’s DART Coalition of Ocean County Encourages All to Have a Safe Big Game Celebration

01/20/2014

Sunday’s “big game” is an occasion for celebration and fun for many people. The competitive spirit of the day is looked forward to by countless football fans throughout the year. However, it is important to make safety a priority while you are enjoying the big game – especially when it comes to alcohol use.

There are more than 80,000 deaths attributed to excessive alcohol consumption in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Play a part in making game day a safe day for you and your guests by discouraging binge drinking and taking a stand against serving minors. If you are attending a party at a restaurant, bar, family member’s or friend’s house, be sure to designate a responsible driver. And, whether you are the home team or a visitor, do not hesitate to speak up about alcohol-related activities you suspect may have a dangerous result – your words may save a life.
