Georgia C Georgia's Pink Crusader Patient Story

"They saved my life."

Anticipating the start of her new job, a routine mammogram turned Georgia Cekot’s life around. Georgia had no symptoms and felt no lumps. Between insurance at the time, she was concerned what this diagnosis would mean for her and her family. She was worried about losing the new job she was so looking forward to starting. Fortunately, her fears were unfounded. Her new employer was incredibly supportive of her health challenges.

Georgia’s cancer required a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation. When Georgia was offered the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial, she eagerly accepted. The trial provided an additional level of monitoring which made her feel more secure. Three years after her diagnosis, this mother and grandmother of four, is grateful for the amazing team of physicians, nurses and staff at The Cancer Center at Saint Barnabas. They made an unsettling diagnosis into a good experience. “They saved my life,” she shares.
