Sara C Sara's Pink Crusader Patient Story

Sara appreciated everything that was done to ease her fears and provide comfort to her during treatment.

Sara Clarke is no stranger to breast cancer. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38 and succumbed to cancer when she was 62. Deemed high-risk, Sara began the ritual of mammograms at the age of 30. When she felt a small lump in her breast, she immediately called her physician who ordered additional testing. With such a strong family history and a palpable mass, she was referred to a breast surgeon who listened and understood Sara’s concerns.

Given that the lump was so small, removal was the best option. The lump was cancer, Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. With the diagnosis of breast cancer, Sara would need Radiation Therapy. Having seen the impact of radiation therapy on her mother's skin, Sara was very apprehensive.

Sara met with her radiation oncologist who explained that today’s treatment was more targeted with fewer side effects as compared to when Sara’s mother had been treated. Every weekday for six weeks, before her morning commute into Manhattan, Sara received her treatments. On her last day of treatment, she gave each staff member a thank you card with a candle taped inside.

Sara appreciated everything that was done to ease her fears and provide comfort to her during treatment. She was looking forward to more birthdays and wanted her radiation therapists/caregivers to share in her birthday wish of good health.
