They are uniquely equipped to handle the needs of all callers at all times, including those in crisis who present with the most complex behavioral health problems. The Access Center Staff provides referrals, rapid assessment and disposition planning, crisis intervention, hospital diversion services and screening for hospitalization. One call to the Access Center enables a client or referral source to access care by scheduling appointments and locating the most appropriate providers and programs in the Network.
In emergency situations, the Access Center staff refers the caller to appropriate emergency psychiatric services. Emergency psychiatric and substance abuse assessment are performed at all Network affiliated facilities.
When hospitalization is necessary, SBBHN emergency staff obtain pre-authorizations from insurers and assist with inpatient admission.
The Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Network Access Center is electronically networked through a sophisticated behavioral health information computer system which allows the Access Center staff to identify the most appropriate providers and schedule assessments during the initial call. Through the Priority Access Library (P.A.L.) information system, the Access Center staff has instant access to information on all Network programs. Callers are assessed and the appropriate level of care is determined.
