Leading Edge Treatment for Gastrointestinal Cancers

Depending on the site, and specific type, stage and grade of cancer, treatment for gastrointestinal cancer may include a variety of treatment options. Most often, surgery is a primary therapy, however radiation and chemotherapy may also be used in conjunction with surgery—either before or after—to give patients the best chance for cure.

At our facilities throughout central and northern New Jersey, RWJBarnabas Health Cancer Centers offer a wide range of therapies and approaches to combat cancers of the digestive tract. From state-of-the-art technology, to leading edge treatments, including chemoradiation and immunotherapy, we combine modalities to customize care for each and every patient. When appropriate, patients may participate in clinical trials that integrate new therapies and offer more options for advanced or difficult cases.

We also offer the latest technologies for precise treatment of certain forms of gastrointestinal cancers, and procedures and therapies which allow specialists to remove or destroy cancer, while sparing healthy tissue within the digestive tract. These include:

  • Conformal external beam radiotherapy
  • Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT)
  • Stereotactic radiotherapy
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Heated abdominal chemotherapy (HIPEC)
  • Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
