Volunteers working with patients and their families receive 18 hours of training from the Hospice Team before their participation in hospice care can begin, but all new volunteers are encouraged to participate in these classes, which prepare volunteers to work with the sick and dying, offer support to families and comfort the bereaved.

Volunteer training is offered throughout the year, according to the volume of interest, but spring and fall are the usual seasons to expect a new class to start.
