Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center’s
Arts & Crafts Group Brings Fellowship to MS Patients

Livingston, NJ - Twice a month the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center at the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center sponsors the MS Arts and Crafts group for those patients who have Multiple Sclerosis (MS).   Sandi Dobson leads the group in various projects including knitting, stitching, painting, molding, and framing.  But this group provides much more than just arts and crafts.

During the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 1:00 p.m., the group begins catching up with their lives and how they are managing with MS.  Most days the group is joined by Marcia Hall and her toy poodle, Happy.  He has been dubbed the mascot of the group.  Happy does exactly as his name suggests and his presence brightens the group.

Multiple Sclerosis Center's Arts and Crafts Group

Members of the MS Arts and Crafts Group along with Administration gather to show off the display in the Atrium at the ACC in Livingston.

As the group settles in, they work on various projects as Sandy works with small groups and individuals.  The group’s members have varying artistic abilities and they do a wide-range of projects as a result.  The projects include decorative wooden boxes, fingerless gloves, quilted bags, wooden placemats, iPod covers, neck warmers, stone cake plates, and so much more.

“I have had MS for 18 years and I have never found anyone who is more positive with me than Sandi,” said Valerie Vogel of South Orange.  “I have almost no artistic skills and Sandy helps us accomplish something unique and feel good about it.”

The MS Arts and Crafts Group art is now displayed in the Atrium at the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center by the Pharmacy Department.  Members of the group will be displaying their art during the summer months in the display case.

If you are an MS patient and would like to join the group, the MS Arts and Crafts Group meets in the MS Center at the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Avenue, Livingston, Suite 124 during the second and fourth Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m.  For more information about the MS Comprehensive Care Center at the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center please call, 973.322.7073.
