The Pediatric Health Center at Children’s Hospital of New
Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center offers a multidisciplinary
pediatric weight management program called KIDSFIT Newark. Kids
from ages 7 to 18 and their families are welcome to participate.

The Team
The team consists of a physician, a registered dietitian,
an exercise physiologist and a social worker. KidsFit
Newark is under the direction of Nwando Anyauko, MD,
Director of The Pediatric Health Center at Children’s Hospital
of NJ and Barbara B. Mintz, MS, RD, Clinical Nutrition Manager
at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

The Program
KidsFit Newark is
an 8 week, comprehensive program that encourages children, teens
and their families to adopt and sustain a healthy lifestyle. The
major components of health living are taught in a supportive environment
and include nutrition and healthy eating, behavior modification,
self-esteem and physical activity. The program is facilitated
by a multidisciplinary team who are experts in their field.
Weekly topics include:
- Fitness and health
- Appropriate portions and serving sizes
- Healthy food choices and cooking methods
- Healthy food shopping on a budget and how to read labels
- Fitness and activity
- Self image
