Newark, NJ -- On Friday, December 11th, Children’s
Hospital of New Jersey received a visit from an extraordinary child
named Justin Martin. Seven-year-old Justin and his father delivered
70 bears from Build-a-Bear Workshop to give to children at the
hospital this holiday season.
“Our pediatric patients are delighted to receive the
generous gift of Justin’s bears,” says Joshua Rosenblatt,
MD, Chairman of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of
New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. “Justin’s
interest in giving to others is remarkable and the bears will be
cherished.”
The first of the bears were given to children in the Pediatric
Emergency Department by Justin and his dad. The
Justin Charity Bear Fund was created two years ago and
this year Justin hopes to receive enough donations to distribute
1,000 bears.
Justin was just 5 1/2 years old when he realized
that not all children were lucky to have a bear like his. He
told his father that he wanted to make bears and give them to
needy children, and together they created the nonprofit, The
Justin Charity Bear Fund. In 2008, with help from volunteers
and a partnership with the partnered with the Newark Housing
Authority, they were able to raise enough money
to make 850 bears at the Bridgewater Build-A-Bear store and give
them to New Jersey children. If you want to donate
to The Justin Charity Bear Fund, which is a registered 501(c)3,
you can reach contact quin@qhassociates.com.
