NEWARK, New Jersey, February 15, 2012 – Thirteen-year old Diane Duan of Jersey City is an 8th grade student who loves the New Jersey Nets – they are her favorite team. Diane understands basketball, perhaps more than other young people her age, because she too, plans to return to playing after treatment at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Diane was center court recently with Anthony Morrow and other members of the New Jersey Nets at their home game at The Rock. Diane was joined by her mother, Gina and father, Danny for the Nets warm up and photographs with Anthony Morrow. Morrow visited Diane and other patients of the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Christmas delivering more than 100 toys as a special gesture to hospitalized children. This is the first time the Duan family has attended a NBA game.
“You just don’t know how really, really excited I am,” said Diane. “Everybody has done so much for me at the hospital and now I get to go to a Net’s game!” Diane has two sisters, a brother and a nephew.
“I want to thank Anthony Morrow and the NJ Nets organization for allowing the Duan family the opportunity to attend a New Jersey Nets game,” said John A. Brennan, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. “Our Child Life program at Children’s Hospital of NJ provides positive experiences for children who face health challenges, and an opportunity for kids to just be kids.”
Diane is very athletic. In addition to basketball, she is a Brown Belt in Karate; she is an avid bowler and participates in other sports programs.
