WOUND TREATMENTS PROVIDED AT CLARA MAASS MEDCIAL CENTER

Belleville, NJ – The Wound Center at Clara Maass Medical Center provides a range of treatments for patients suffering from non-healing wounds. In addition to hyperbaric oxygen therapy—high-oxygen-pressure used to treat various conditions and illnesses — treatments include human skin equivalents, growth factors and hydropolymers.

Physicians at the Wound Center assess each patient’s wound and tailor the treatment plan to surgically remedy it. One treatment offered at Clara Maass is using human skin equivalents, which are made from harvested cells and are applied directly to venous ulcers and non-healing diabetic ulcers to accelerate their closures. A second treatment is the use of growth factors. These promote the growth of the wound’s good cells and heal the wound from the inside out. A third treatment is the use of hydropolymers, a type of dressing that when applied to a wound, will stimulate cell growth to help close the wound.

“There have been many developments in new treatments for wound care,” said Wayne Caputo, MD, Director of the Wound Center at Clara Maass. “We are constantly advancing our treatments at Clara Maass to ensure that we are providing our patients with the highest quality of care.”

Patients who are referred to the Center often suffer from a variety of conditions including: lymphedema; diabetes, vascular conditions (including poor circulation); traumatic wounds; non-healing surgical wounds; rheumatoid arthritis; scleroderma and lupus; cardiac conditions, neuro-muscular conditions and stroke; bone infections; and malignancies.

Since 1992, The Wound Center has remained dedicated to caring for people with wounds that resist healing. An experienced team of physicians (podiatrists, vascular surgeons, infectious disease specialists, and plastic surgeons) and nurses versed in all areas of wound care, work together to manage the most complicated wounds and expedite the healing process.

Lifestyle, environment and nutritional status play an important role in the body’s ability to heal. At The Wound Center, patients undergo an assessment based on these factors to determine a personalized plan of care. Individualized treatment plans encourage the healing process while allowing patients the comfort of healing at home. Treatments prescribed are likely to cure the non-healing wound of the average patient in six to eight weeks.

The Wound Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, or for a free brochure, please call 973-844-4070.
