Belleville, N.J. – This
past March, Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC) launched its “Dear
Doctor” campaign to celebrate National Doctor's Day. This
campaign asked for grateful patients to write “Dear Doctor” letters
as a way to thank and recognize CMMC physicians for their outstanding
service.
The letters shared personal experiences and stories highlighting
the exemplary work put forth by the physicians. Those recognized
in the “Dear Doctor” campaign included Andrea Barbier,
DO, Kenneth Blank, MD, Wayne Caputo, DPM, Joseph DeMayo,
MD, Stephen Ducey, MD, and Frank Femino, MD.
Specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Barbier is a doctor that
not only takes time to see her patients, but speak to them when
they need help. In one letter, an individual wrote, “In an
age when so much of communication starts out with telephone prompts,
I can call Dr. Barbier’s office at any time and actually
speak to her in person. She never hesitates to take the time to
speak to me if I should seem uneasy or have a question.”
Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology and chairman
of the Cancer Committee, Dr. Blank’s fine training and expertise
paired with his compassionate nature puts his patients at ease,
even in their toughest moments. “Dr. Blank provided me with
the utmost care, concern, consideration and help when I so needed
his fine capabilities and expertise,” wrote a grateful
patient.
“I’m grateful to Dr. Caputo for saving my leg. He’s
not only a doctor, but a caring friend to all of his patients,” said
one patient about Dr. Caputo from the Wound Center at Clara Maass
Medical Center. “Just sit in the waiting room on Tuesday
afternoon. Each of his patients has a story to tell.”
Family Medicine physician, Dr. DeMayo, received a letter from
an individual who said, “I have never met anyone like this
man who not only takes care of your medical problems with medicine,
but can make you feel better by just being in his presence. Clara
Maass should be very proud that they have such a great doctor such
as Dr. DeMayo on their staff.”
A doctor of general orthopaedics with an emphasis on sports medicine,
Dr. Ducey of the Femino-Ducey Orthopaedic Group practices medicine
with both skill and compassion—traits which are valued by
his patients. “During my initial consult with Dr. Ducey I
understood why friends and co-workers had confidence in recommending
him,” wrote a former patient. “I appreciate not only
his skills as a doctor and surgeon, but the care and concern that
he and his staff showed for me in my time of need.”
Also of the Femino-Ducey Orthopaedic Group, Dr. Femino is a doctor
of general orthopaedics with an emphasis on adult reconstructive
surgery and joint replacement. Dr. Femino heads the Joint & Spine
Institute at Clara Maass. His “amazing care and kind ways,” not
only helped his patient recover, but motivated his patient to help
others through the recovery process as well. “I have nothing
but respect and admiration for all of his hard work,” wrote
a patient. “I have had such success with my procedures that
I now volunteer at The Joint & Spine Institute and I truly
enjoy it!”
Those recognized by the 2009 Dear Doctor campaign have touched
the lives of many individuals and families. The recognized physicians
and their patient’s who wrote the selected letters will receive
complimentary V.I.P. passes to the Clara Maass Medical Center Foundation’s A
Tasteful Experience, on November 9, 2009, at the Pleasantdale
Chateau in West Orange, NJ.
The Clara Maass Medical Center Foundation thanks those that
wrote in to express their gratitude and encourages others to participate
