One in every six men will develop prostate cancer over the course of his lifetime.  But the good news is that when caught early enough, the disease is nearly 100 percent curable.  Proceeds from the LIFELINE CHALLENGE will benefit prostate cancer outreach, education and screenings.

The event was the idea of Michael Lyach, an international bicycle racer who once helped coach the young Greg Lemond to victory in the 1979 Junior World Championships.  A prostate cancer survivor, Mr. Lyach attributes his cure to the treatment he received at The Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center.  Spearheading the LIFELINE CHALLENGE was his way of giving back to the hospital..

Individual riders and walkers, families, members of the Clara Maass Medical Center staff, and teams representing local organizations participated in 5, 10 and 15-mile fun rides, as well as a 2.5 mile walk. Among the participants were Essex County Executive, Joe DiVincenzo, Clara Maass Executive Director, Thomas A. Biga and Kenneth Blank, M.D., Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at the Medical Center, who rode with his family. WABC-TV Eyewitness News this Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon co-anchor, Ken Rosato and New Jersey Jackals announcer, George Ruthauser served as Masters of Ceremonies.
