Belleville, NJ—Susan G. Komen for the Cure® North Jersey recently awarded Clara Maass Medical Center with a grant to fund a Breast Health Outreach and Navigation program.
The Breast Health Outreach and Navigation program will provide critical breast health education and training to all women through collaborations with faith-based institutions, low-income and senior housing communities, municipal health departments and local businesses. The program will educate women about the importance of breast self-exams, screenings, follow-up, proper nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction.
The Breast Cancer Navigation program at Clara Maass Medical Center will offer support for women with suspicious findings and those diagnosed with breast cancer.
With navigation, these patients will receive more timely diagnoses and treatment. They will be encouraged to ask their health care providers questions to understand treatment options and follow-up with the goal of increased quality of care, compliance and better outcomes.
The breast health navigator will guide patients through the treatment process, direct them to local resources and support services, help to arrange and manage appointments, and most of all answer the many questions that may arise.
For more information about the Breast Health Outreach and Navigation program at Clara Maass Medical Center, please contact breast health navigator, Anabela Cunha-Almeida, BSN, RN, at
