Belleville, NJ—U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr., joined Clara Maass Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, staff and friends to premier the Medical Center’s state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Interventional Suite on Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Congressman Pascrell played an instrumental role in securing federal funding for state-of-the art equipment for the Cardiovascular Interventional Suite.
“Congressman Pascrell’s efforts, as well as the many other generous gifts provided by private donors, have helped us in making it possible to offer our patients the latest technology to provide them with the best cardiac care,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, Executive Director, Clara Maass Medical Center. “We were so honored that he could join us to celebrate the quality achievements that have put Clara Maass at the forefront in providing outstanding cardiac services.”

Clara Maass Medical Center is one of only 12 hospitals in New Jersey to offer elective angioplasty—an option offered through the Atlantic C-Port Elective Angioplasty research study, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Also, according to the New Jersey Department of Health Hospital Performance Report, Clara Maass ranks top in the State for the treatments of Congestive Heart Failure, Heart Attack and Pneumonia.
To accommodate growth in cardiac volume, the Medical Center has added an additional Cardiovascular Interventional Suite, and renovated the original procedure room. The Recovery Room also underwent an expansion, from a two-bed bay to a six-bed bay. The Suite is equipped the most state-of-the-art technology enabling Clara Maass Medical Center to offer its patients the highest quality of care.
The program began at 10 a.m. with remarks by Ms. Clyne, Congressman Pascrell and physicians Fadi Chaaban, MD, Director of Cardiology and Elie Chakhtoura, MD, Director of the Cardiovascular Interventional Suite; and was immediately followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the new Cardiovascular Interventional Suite.
State Senator Ronald Rice, State Assemblywoman Cleo Tucker, Assemblyman Ralph Caputo, Essex County Democratic Chairman Philip Thigpen, and Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo also attended the event.
