Community Medical Center
Introduces Brain Tumor Support Group

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey, November 27, 2007--- Many people find it helpful to open a dialogue with others in similar health situations - whether they are suffering from a certain medical problem or grappling with a particular stage in their life.

In response to these needs, Community Medical Center offers a host of support groups led by professionals in their specific area of expertise that offer individuals the opportunity to meet and discuss a broad range of health issues. Most recently the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community introduced a Brain Tumor Support Group that meets the third Monday of each month at 3 p.m. in the cancer center¹s Radiation Oncology Department.

"Our support groups provide patients, their family members and loved ones with a forum where they can come together to communicate, and share ideas and feelings," says Sherry Laniado, LCSW, the oncology social worker who leads the Brain Tumor Support Group. "By being part of a group of people with similar experiences, they discover they are not alone and they can help each other."

In the United States, nearly 360,000 people are estimated to be living with primary brain or central nervous system tumors. Each year, the American Cancer Society estimates that 43,800 people will develop these tumors.
