Toms River, NJ, November 19, 2009 – Community Medical Center is teaming with the American Red Cross to hold a Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the hospital’s auditorium, 99 Highway 37 West. All donors will receive refreshments and a chance to win prizes.
Donating blood is a simple, selfless gift of life that helps ensure a sustained and secure blood supply for all people. While most people expect blood to be available if they should ever need it, only a fraction of those who can give blood really do.
Most adults can give blood. According to the American Red Cross’ general guidelines for donation, a person must be in good general health, be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood in the last 56 days. Prior to donating blood, each donor will undergo a brief examination to measure temperature, blood pressure and red blood cell count.
Blood is always needed and it is important for those who can donate to do so. Donated blood is distributed to hospitals to help patients who have experienced a disaster, an accident, trauma, surgery or diseases such as cancer.
For more information or to donate blood during the blood drive, please call Community Medical Center’s Blood Bank at 732-557-8000, ext.15263 or email LDiskin@barnabashealth.org.
