About Community Medical Center
When it first opened, Community Memorial Hospital, as it was known at the time, was a 50-bed hospital with 15 physicians on staff and 90 employees.
Within weeks of opening in 1961, Community Memorial Hospital was filled to capacity and plans were drafted to double the number of beds, triple the emergency department, add pediatrics and expand key areas.
The hospital hasn't stopped growing since the doors first opened.
Today, the hospital has grown to a 592-bed hospital with a medical staff of well over 650 physicians and over 2900 employees, and is the state's largest non-teaching hospital. Additionally, CMC is Ocean County's largest and most active health care facility - caring for over 28,000 inpatients, 127,700 outpatients and nearly 100,000 Emergency Department patients each year.
