Our Services NEUROLOGICAL INTRA-OPERATIVE MONITORING Specially trained technologists work closely with a neurologist and surgeon to monitor the spinal pathway during lumbar spine, thoracic spine, and cervical neck surgery. During the surgery, electrodes are placed on the neck and head with stimulating pads on the ankle, wrist or both. Waveforms are measured for height( amplitude) and timing (latency). While performing this procedure, the technologist will immediately report to the surgeon any changes noted in the latency. If spine stability instrumentation are used, the technologist and surgeon will test the screw to ensure the proper placement. This will help reduce post operative complications related to the screw placement. The neurologist reviews all testing and generates a report to the surgeon on the monitoring results. Before surgery ends, the surgeon will be notified of any changes that occurred during the procedure. Abnormal changes are reported immediately during surgery so the surgeon can adjust appropriately. The technologist will meet the patient in the operating room holding area to introduce themselves, explain the monitoring procedure, answer questions regarding the monitoring, and set up the electrodes before entering the operating room.
