Animal Planet “MVP” to Appear at Hospice Fundraiser

Jake the 10 pound Chug, a Chihuahua and Pug mix, who was named Most Valuable Puppy (MVP) at the 2010 Animal Planet Puppy BowlNew Jersey – Jake the 10 pound Chug, a Chihuahua and Pug mix, who was named Most Valuable Puppy (MVP) at the 2010 Animal Planet Puppy Bowl this past February, will make a guest appearance at the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center’s annual October Tails Halloween-themed Dog Walk. He will also join the panel of October Tails canine costume contest judges.

October Tails will be held on Sunday, October 24 (rain date October 30), from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. in Verona Park, Verona, NJ.  The event features children’s activities, agility demonstrations, obedience games, vendors, a pet caricaturist and more. All proceeds benefit the BHHPCC’s Paws for Patients canine therapy program for patients and families.

Jake was adopted from All Star Pet Rescue located in Linden, NJ. Lauren Chrust, Jake’s “mom”, entered him into the Puppy Bowl knowing he would be a perfect fit for the popular “pooch program”. Animal Planet has hosted Puppy Bowl since 2005 with the goal of bringing attention to the need for the adoption of shelter pets. Jake was not only named MVP, he also earned the “Viewer’s Choice” crown with 23,000 votes from an audience of more than 10 million viewers.

Jake will be available for photos and “paw-tographs” at the October Tails event. He is also scheduled to attend several other non-profit and rescue benefits throughout the fall. “Jake has gotten very popular,” said Ms. Chrust. “He gets emails from all over the country and now even has his own Facebook page.”
