Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center Nurse Manager Completes
National Hospice Manager Development Program
Phyllis Curtis, RN, MAS, CHPN a resident of Jersey
City and Performance Improvement Coordinator for the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center in West Orange,
recently completed Level I of the National Hospice and Palliative
Care Organization’s (NHPCO) Hospice Manager Development
Program.
As described by the NHPCO, the largest nonprofit membership
organization representing hospice and palliative care programs
and professionals in the United States, the Hospice Manager
Development Program is the only comprehensive management
training program available that provides in-depth orientation
and training in hospice management. The Program provides
the specific knowledge and skills hospice managers need to
meet today’s changes and challenges.
A graduate of Christ Hospital School of Nursing and New
Jersey City University, both located in Jersey City, and
Fairleigh Dickinson University, Curtis takes pride in her
leadership role as Performance Improvement Coordinator for
the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Her
daily responsibilities include overseeing the organization’s
performance improvement program and collaborating with managers
and staff in evaluating practices related to the provision
of quality care to patients and families.
“I am utilizing the information presented in the Program’s
courses to further develop and enhance my leadership and
management skills,” states Curtis, who began her career
with the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center
in 1998 as a Team Leader. “Participating in the Program
was a great experience, I am happy to have had the opportunity.”
Established in 1981, Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care
System, provides comprehensive physical, emotional and spiritual
care and support services to patients with advanced illness
and their families throughout ten counties in the State of
New Jersey. The program, which serves infants, children, adults
and the elderly, honors the unique choices and values of patients
and their families while offering full access to the broad
array of services provided by the Saint Barnabas Health Care
System.
