West Orange, NJ – Lorraine Sciara, RN, FACHE,
Executive Director of the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care
System located in West Orange, NJ, recently became a Fellow

30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare

Fellow status represents achievement of the highest standard
of professional development. In fact, only 8,500 healthcare
executives hold this distinction. To obtain Fellow
status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including
passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and
experiential criteria, earning continuing education credits
and demonstrating professional and community involvement. Fellows
are also committed to ongoing professional development and
undergo recertification every three years.
Ms. Sciara, who received a nursing diploma from the Mountainside
Hospital School of Nursing in New Jersey and a master’s
degree in Public Health from Columbia University in New York,
has been leading the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center for more than 27 years. She currently oversees
approximately 300 employees and 450 volunteers at the Saint
Barnabas Health Care System’s four hospice and palliative

Long Branch, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark
and Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Toms River. The
Centers provide exceptional hospice and palliative care services
to New Jersey residents facing an end-stage illness, and
their families.
“I feel extremely privileged to have had the opportunity
to collaborate with the American College of Healthcare Executives
to earn the FACHE credential,” says Ms. Sciara. “As
a healthcare professional, I truly believe continuing education
is the key to maintaining creativity and ingenuity in an
increasingly competitive marketplace. I look forward
to future development opportunities and sharing the knowledge
I have gained from this experience with the team at the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
