Toms River Nurse Practitioner’s Dedication
Draws National and County Recognition

Kathryn E Corbet, APN-COcean County – Toms River Resident Kathryn E. Corbet, APN-C, was named the 2011 House Call Clinician of the Year by the American Academy of Home Care Physicians. This award is the organization’s highest honor and is bestowed upon “pioneering clinicians who are bringing house calls back into the medical care mainstream.” Recipients are nominated and selected by their peers. Kathy was nominated for the award by Visiting Physician Services, PC, in Eatontown, with whom she has worked for the past nine years.

Kathy has more than 20 years of nursing and health care experience and today serves multiple nurse practitioner roles. In her per diem work for Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Community Medical Center in Toms River, a Barnabas Health facility, Kathy provides pain management to patients and frequently consults with family members to help determine whether hospice care at home is appropriate.

Kathy worked at home as a Medical Transcriptionist while her three children were growing up. After raising her family, Kathy’s husband encouraged her to follow her interest in nursing and she did so with a passion, pursuing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees while working at Community Medical Center. Kathy went on to work as a Nurse Practitioner at Kimball Medical Center, also a Barnabas Health facility, and served as adjunct instructor of nursing and clinical instructor of nursing at Ocean County College.

In addition to receiving the House Call Clinician of the Year Award, Kathy was also featured in a recent article appearing in Ocean County Woman magazine. She serves as Deacon, the Chair of Health Ministry and the Craft Director for Vacation Bible School in Toms River and enjoys fishing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends, as well as her menagerie of pets, from dogs to hamsters.

Regarding her work as a nurse practitioner, Kathy says, “I love it and do feel as if I make a difference in the lives of these patients.”
