Center Inpatient Unit at Monmouth Medical Center, an affiliate

the Best” in the 2007 Advance for Nurses Editor’s
Choice Best Nursing Team contest.
Advance for Nurses is a bi-weekly publication which
provides concise, practical information on clinical, management,
professional and career development issues for nurses practicing
in all areas of the profession. Each year the publication’s Best
Nursing Team contest generates hundreds of entries from
the 10 regions the magazine serves. The Monmouth Medical
Center hospice team was recognized in the Greater New York/New
Jersey Metro area edition.
“From the hospice and palliative care center’s
inception in 2000, the nursing team has displayed tremendous
initiative,” describes Ellen Coughlin, MPA, RN, Vice
President of Patient and Family Services for the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center. “Many of
the unit’s nurses were on staff at Monmouth Medical

to caring for patients at the end of life. All of the
nurses rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to transform
the unit into a thriving care center.”
