Toms River, NJ – Pictured above, left to right, are Joseph Mercadante, Ocean County Roughnecks Motorcycle Club, and Corporal Jim Merrell, Ocean County Corrections Department, at the 4th Annual Blue Lady Poker Run to benefit Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, an affiliate of Barnabas Health. Since 2008, Cpl. Merrell has organized the event in memory of his partner, Senior Corrections Officer, Barbara Castenacci, Badge 101, who received end-of-life care from Van Dyke.
Mr. Mercadante, a resident of Bayville, had the winning hand of the day and donated the $300 prize back to Van Dyke on behalf of the Roughnecks Motorcycle Club. The second and third place prize winners also donated their winnings back to hospice. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $3,000 to benefit Van Dyke patients and families.
Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care provides Ocean County residents who are facing advanced illness, medical, spiritual, and emotional support where ever he/she lives – at home, in the hospital, nursing home, or assisted living residence.
