Lakewood, NJ - On June 15,
the first Annual Chloe's Causes Golf Classic was held at
Battleground Country Club in Manalapan to benefit The Chloe
Alexis Sauickie Foundation and the Chloe Sauickie Memorial
Fund of the Kimball Medical Center Foundation.
On July 12, 2005, the Sauickie family lost a precious member
of the family, their daughter and little sister Chloe Alexis.
Chloe was only 21 months old when she passed away suddenly.
For more than a year, the reason behind what took Chloe from
them remained unknown. Since she was over the age of one
year when she passed away, it was not considered Sudden Infant
Death Syndrome (SIDS). Instead, it belonged to a lesser-known
category, Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), which
describes the death of healthy children after their first
birthday and where the cause of their death is left unexplained.
It was with the help of the SUDC Program that they eventually
learned that the cause of Chloe's death was a rare cardiac
disorder known as Oncocytic Cardiomyopathy.
Five hundred 50/50 raffle tickets were sold, raising just
under $15,000, half of which went to the winner, and the
other half to the Chloe Sauickie Memorial Fund of the Kimball
Medical Center Foundation.
The mission of The Chloe Alexis Sauickie Foundation is to
raise funds that benefit children, including medical research
and support, pediatric care and scholarships. The Chloe
Sauickie Memorial Fund at Kimball is utilized to benefit
children, including improvements on the pediatric unit, pediatric
emergency services and other pediatric-directed services. The
mission wasn’t derived because of the loss of a child,
but actually because the Sauickie’s believe that had
Chloe lived, she would have done great things herself for
children, and the foundation helps to fulfill Chloe’s
Causes.
“We have always been appreciative of Kimball Medical
Center and its world class staff for its support of our family. Having
grown up in Jackson, Kimball was always my family’s
hospital when needed. To be able to contribute toward
continuing Kimball’s critical place in the community,
in the memory of our daughter Chloe, is a happy moment for
my family and me,” said Alex Sauickie, co-founder of
The Chloe Alexis Sauickie Foundation, and current member
of the Board of Trustees of the Kimball Medical Center Foundation. “We
appreciate all of those who generously support Chloe’s
Causes and hope the funds will go on to help many children
at Kimball for many years to come.”
