FEBRUARY COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS

AARP Driving Safety Program

Monday, February 2 and 9 from 12:30 – 4:30 pm

Register today for the nation’s first and largest refresher course geared especially to your needs.  Learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and the rules of the road in this 8-hour course.  This two-day course will be held at the Kimball Medical Center’s Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood.  Pre-registration is required by calling the Barnabas Health Care Link at 1-888-724-7123.  $12.00 fee for AARP members (non-members pay $14.00).

 

Childbirth Education Classes

Thursdays, February 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm

Learn about the process of labor, birth and delivery, and postpartum. You’ll learn to master relaxation techniques and breathing methods to help you progress through each stage of labor and birth.  Fee is $75 for three-session program.  Free tours of the maternity unit are available also.  The program will be held at Kimball Medical Center.  Pre-registration is requested by calling the Barnabas Health Care Link at 1-888-724-7123.

 

Children in the Middle Divorce Education Program for Parents

Monday, February 9 and 16 from 6 – 8:30 pm

The Saint Barnabas Institute for Prevention is offering a free 2-day, skills-based, educational intervention program for parents going through separation and/or divorce.

Children in the Middle is designed for parents who are currently going through a divorce or separation and would like to learn effective strategies for parenting their children during this difficult time and assist them in creating a parenting plan to meet the needs of the entire family.  Through this program, parents will learn to think about the situations where conflict usually occurs and better navigate their options; use more effective methods to reduce their emotional reactions to situations and maintain control; and increase their effectiveness with and sensitivity to their children’s needs.

Parenting An Athlete Five-Week Series

Tuesdays, February 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10 from 5:30 to 7 pm

The Saint Barnabas Institute for Prevention, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Behavioral Health Network, will be hosting a five-week parenting series for parents, guardians, coaches and educational professionals of children ages 11 – 18 who are participating in or considering participation in sports activities, called Parenting An Athlete.  This educational series is designed to provide parents with the skills, tools and information to mold a resilient athlete through parent/child bonding, role modeling and enjoyment of and participation in shared physical activities and sports.  This five-week series consists of 90-minute weekly sessions focusing on one of five specific topics each week.  This includes: resiliency; communication; sportsmanship; expectations and goal setting; and creating balance.  The series will be held at Kimball Medical Center in Conference Room A.  For further information or to register for the program, please call Mark Firth at (732) 948-5020.  All participants will receive a $50 gift card upon completion of the program and a certificate of completion.  Professional credits are available for educators.  Pre-registration is required and space is limited.  Free.

 

Managing Erectile Dysfunction

Thursday, February 19 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Join Charles Tomasczeski, MD, Urologist on staff at Kimball Medical Center, to discuss conditions and treatment options for managing erectile dysfunction.  Treatment will not be provided; appropriate referrals and instruction will be offered.  Spouses are welcome to attend.  The program will be held at Kimball Medical Center’s Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood.  Pre-registration is requested by calling the Barnabas Health Care Link at 1-888-724-7123.  Free.
