Shirley Hwang holds clinical responsibility for the Leon Hess Multidisciplinary Cancer Center, which includes the highly acclaimed Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center and Institute for Advanced Radiation Oncology. Hwang joined Monmouth from the East Orange campus of the U.S. Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care System, where she served as an oncology advanced practice nurse and completed a fellowship in palliative care. Prior to that, she was a research clinical nurse specialist at UCLA Medical Center, California.
She served from 1994 to 2004 as an assistant professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Nursing, Newark, also serving as a clinical preceptor for graduate nursing students.
After receiving her bachelor of science degree from Taipai Medical College in Taiwan, she earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Nursing. She has completed specialty training courses in various oncologic areas at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
