LONG BRANCH, NJ –The Women’s Council for the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center is excited to announce the date of its 2008 “Power of Pink” Luncheon honoring Doctor David J. Sharon. On Thursday, July 24, 2008, the Council’s annual fund raising luncheon will be hosted at the Fort Chapel and Grounds at Sandy Hook, between 11 am and 2 pm.
The guest speaker for the 2008 event is Mary Jo Codey, former First Lady of New Jersey. As a staunch advocate for individuals affected by breast cancer, Mrs. Codey welcomed the invitation to speak at this year’s luncheon. She is a breast-cancer survivor, herself and lost her mother to the disease. As First Lady she launched a statewide fundraising campaign in support of breast-cancer awareness and was active in stressing the importance of early detection.
The Women’s Council is thrilled to honor Dr. David J. Sharon at the 2008 Power of Pink Luncheon. Dr. Sharon has been the attending physician at Monmouth Medical Center for more than 25 years. Currently he is the Medical Director of the Leon Hess Cancer Center and has championed the hospital’s cancer program since 1985, in the capacity of section chief of Hematology-Oncology.
The sit-down luncheon is planned for over 350 attendees and will include the opportunity to win a custom designed pink diamond necklace donated by Maureen Bay of Gem of An Idea, Fair Haven. Additionally, an exciting silent auction of donated items from local retailers and a boutique of various items will be for sale.
Last year’s 2007 Power of Pink Luncheon featuring dynamic, guest speaker Dr. Memhet Oz was sold out weeks prior to the event. To secure individual tickets or reserve a table or sponsorship, contact Mrs. Evelyn Nitis as soon as possible at (732) 923-6886.
