at Monmouth Medical Center & Surf Taco Locations.

LONG BRANCH, NJ –On Tuesday, May 12, 2009 hundreds of tweens and teens will gather for the 2nd annual "Text for 10" fundraising effort. The event will take place at from 6:00pm 8:00pm, at Monmouth Medical Center, in addition to several Surf Taco locations throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

“Last year we raised over $50,000 by texting friends and family members for a minimum donation of $10. and on May 12th, we hope to surpass last year’s numbers, said Judy Zocchi, Co-Chair for the event.  Proceeds from this fundraiser support the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center at Monmouth Medical Center, including support programs for children with parents with brain tumors or children who have lost a loved one to a brain tumor, and national advocacy efforts to aid families and identify environmental and lifestyle causes.  Adults can get in on the action too by forming teams at work or with friends and family members.

Manasquan resident, Judy Zocchi raised the funds and was the driving force behind the Brain Tumor Center after her husband David lost a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.  Ms. Zocchi was determined to create a support system to help local patients and their families cope with the disease.

Opened in 2007, the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center is the only facility at the Jersey Shore dedicated to the treatment and cure of brain and spinal cord tumors in adults.  The center combines cutting-edge technology with a multidisciplinary expert team of health care professionals, led by Sumul Raval, Medical Director, to provide advanced treatment options and to enhance the quality of life of patients and their families.

Fifteen-year old Olivia Questore, from Eatontown, NJ is this year’s event’s Co-Chair.  She lost her father to brain cancer in 2007.   With a shared determination to turn their loss into something positive, Olivia and Ms. Zocchi have teamed up to help spread awareness about brain cancer and the valuable services offered by the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center. “This is so much more than a fundraiser to me, said Olivia, it’s a chance for me to help other  families. When my dad died I had just turned 14, I was in 7th grade and just entered middle school. If you had asked me what happened that year in my life I couldn't tell you because the only things I remember are the absolutely horrible things. Now I'm still my outgoing fun dancing acting self but there is still that impact on my life from those 18 months that we all consumed trying to help my Dad.  Going through that experience, I can now help these kids and their family members, with the help of the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center, whether its art therapy classes or anything else that will help get them get through, plus it’s definitely what my father would have wanted.” Olivia became a member of the Monmouth Regional High School Key Club and has been able to involve them in the fundraiser. During her father’s illness, she also approached the Memorial Middle School in Eatontown, and as a result, was also able to get them to participate.
