Monmouth Medical Center is opening a second facility that will offer Western Monmouth County residents convenient access to the hospital’s renowned Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center.
The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center at Howell, which is located at located at 59 Kent Road, will open in February. The debut follows the October opening of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center at Colts Neck, located on Route 34 next to Delicious Orchards. Blood-drawing services also are available at the Wilentz Center at Colts Neck.
“We’re extremely proud to open a second Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center satellite,” Monmouth Medical Center executive director Frank J. Vozos, M.D., FACS, says.
Pointing to the opening of the convenient satellite locations for Monmouth ‘s diagnostic services, he adds that as part of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, Monmouth Medical Center is a leader in designing unparalleled new ways for delivering health care. The hospital recently opened outpatient laboratory and diagnostic X-ray facility on Route 35 in Ocean Township and an outpatient laboratory services facility on Morris Avenue in Long Branch.
“It is part of the vision for Monmouth Medical Center to provide quality-driven, responsive health care services that meet the needs of the community we serve, and it also is our goal to exceed their expectations in offering the most convenient access possible to our services,” he says.
The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center, which was introduced in 1994 to bring together under one roof all preventive, diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation, psychosocial and educational services for women concerned about their breast health, was modeled after the nation's most highly regarded breast centers. It is equipped with the most technologically advanced systems, offering a comprehensive array of preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative services. Most recently, the breast center introduced BSGI, or Breast Specific Gamma Imaging, which is the newest technique to identify cancerous lesions in the breast, particularly in women who were previously difficult to diagnose.
Among a host of recent quality recognitions, the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center was the first facility in New Jersey and the 10th in the nation to be accredited as a Certified Quality Breast Center by the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers. “This accreditation affirms the JMWCBC's commitment to offering its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease,” says Shirley Hwang, administrative director of cancer and neuroscience services at Monmouth Medical Center.
Additionally, two other prestigious honors were awarded to the center in recognition of its standing as the region’s top breast center. ImagingTechnology News — a publication with nearly 50 years of medical publishing history — recognized the JMWCBC at MMC among the “Top Five Women’s Imaging Centers for 2010” for its “achievements in innovation, operational efficiency, customer service and teamwork.” As one of just five facilities in the nation chosen, the Wilentz Center is lauded as an early adopter of new technology, a participant in clinical trials and applying novel techniques and imaging systems.
And the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, granted a three-year full accreditation designation to the JMWCBC for "providing the highest quality evaluation and management of patients with breast disease." To receive this designation, a first for Monmouth and Ocean counties, the JMWCBC demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.
In the comments section of the survey report, it was noted that the Wilentz Center is "one of the best in terms of organizational structure, and that the standards of care are held by everybody at a 100 percent level. Physician and all participants are clearly committed to the concepts of care espoused by the accreditation standards. Overall care is excellent."
At the satellite centers as well as the Wilentz Center, all imaging exams are interpreted by the center’s dedicated breast imagers.
All of Monmouth Medical Center’s satellite facilities are supported by the hospital’s state-of-the art equipment, highly trained staff, and strict quality standards. Appointments are not required at any of the new satellite locations, including the breast centers at Howell and Colts Neck.
