Long Branch, NJ, July 26, 2011 – The Women’s Council for the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center recently hosted the Annual Power of Pink Luncheon, an event for the benefit of the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center, at the Fort Chapel and Grounds at Sandy Hook.

Middletown native, Brian Williams, NBC Nightly News anchor, was the guest speaker for the luncheon.  Williams joked about the heat as well as some of his fondest memories, “of which all took place within a 10-mile radius of where I am standing right now.”  Williams also spoke of his sister, who lost her fight against breast cancer back in 2006.

The Women’s Council selected Debra Camal, M.D., Breast Surgeon and Medical Director of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth Medical Center as this year’s honoree.  During her speech, Dr. Camal noted the she was both “humbled and honored to be this year’s honoree.”  She also thanked her family for their continued support and love.

Dr. Camal specializes in the evaluation and treatment of women with breast cancer.  She is a patient advocate at heart and feels that providing state-of-the-art services within the local community is of paramount importance for patients and their families.

The Women’s Council was founded in 1995 by Bonnie Levin, a cancer survivor, along with a group of women from the Monmouth County area who identified a need to inform women about the importance of early detection of cancer and the progress being made in cancer research.
