Monmouth Medical Center Only NJ Hospital Participating
in Operation Walk USA – Providing
Free Orthopaedic Surgeries to Uninsured

Long Branch, N.J. – Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch is participating in national Operation Walk USA on Friday, December 7. On this date, more than 109 orthopaedic surgeons at 49 hospitals in 29 states across the USA will provide free joint replacements to 200 individuals as part of Operation Walk USA 2012. Monmouth Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, is the only hospital in New Jersey to participate in the initiative.

Operation Walk USA, now in its second year, is a non-profit medical humanitarian effort providing free hip and knee replacement surgeries for uninsured patients in the U.S. who do not qualify for government assistance programs.

David L. Chalnick, MD, an orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeon and medical director of Monmouth Medical Center’s Total Joint Replacement Program, will lead a team of medical professionals in volunteering their services to perform two orthopaedic surgeries as part of Operation Walk USA 2012. Through the program, two local residents- of Long Branch and Toms River- will receive all aspects of treatment, including surgery, hospitalization and pre-and post-operative care, at no cost.

“Monmouth Medical Center prides itself on providing quality medical care to those we serve. The compassion and dedication of our physicians – like Dr. Chalnick – allow us to provide that same medical care to needy patients identified through Operation Walk,” said Frank J. Vozos, MD, FACS, President and Chief Executive Officer at Monmouth Medical Center.

Harnessing a national network of volunteer hospitals, physicians, nurses, physical therapists and others, Operation Walk USA is committed to helping those in need by restoring their mobility, self-dignity, productivity and helping them return to their social work.

Operation Walk USA drew its inspiration from Operation Walk (International), a private, not-for-profit, volunteer medical services organization that provides free surgical treatment for patients in developing countries, who otherwise have no access to life-improving care for arthritis or other debilitating bone and joint conditions.
