KidsFit and The Beth Challenge provide needed nutrition and exercise education. What started as an exercise program for employees has become a way of life and a corporate culture not only for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey (CHoNJ), but also for Barnabas Health. The Beth Garden augments these programs by providing access to affordable, healthy food. The Biggest Loser visited NBIMC and CHoNJ on two occasions over the last year, including conducting an East Coast Casting Call and First Lady Michele Obama visited the Maple Avenue School as part of her Let’s Move Campaign. Maple Avenue was the first Newark school to implement the KidsFit program into their curriculum.
In our wellness work outside of the medical center we have found that there are many untapped resources and partners who share our vision. The success of these programs is due to the relationships we have fostered with these partners, who offer their own, unique expertise and passion for their
