NEWARK, NJ - In support of the American Dental Association's Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) National Children's Dental Access Day, a group of children from the community ages 12 and under, recently received free dental services from the Department of Dentistry at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. Now in its 4th year, the initiative which is held each February, provides free oral health education, screening and treatment services to children from low-income families across the country focusing on the epidemic of untreated oral disease among disadvantaged children.

During this year's Access Day, 40,000 dental professionals and volunteers provided free educational, preventive and restorative dental services to over 500,000 children at 2,000 locations across the country.

Upon completing their examinations at Newark Beth Israel, participants were given a toothbrush, toothpaste and age-appropriate materials on proper dental care.
