EWNJ TO HONOR Nancy Shendell Falik AT
‘SALUTE TO THE POLICY MAKERS’ 2008 AWARDS DINNER
Newark, NJ – Executive Women of New Jersey (”EWNJ”) will honor Nancy Shendell-Falik, RN, MA, Vice President of Patient Care Services at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, at its “Salute to the Policy Makers” 2008 Awards Dinner on May 15, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick. EWNJ holds the biennial fund-raising event to recognize women of professional distinction in New Jersey.
“This year, EWNJ will pay tribute to Ms. Shendell-Falik as one of 36 ambitious and admirable women for their professional achievements as members of boards of directors or as senior executives at major corporations and organizations based in New Jersey. Over the course of the last two decades, The Salute to the Policy Makers Awards Dinner has evolved into a ‘Hall of Fame’ of sorts for accomplished women throughout the Garden State and we are pleased to honor Ms. Shendell-Falik this year,” noted EWNJ President-Elect and 2008 Salute Dinner Chair Mary S. Hartman, Ph.D., who also serves as director of the Institute for Women’s Leadership at Rutgers University.
Nancy Shendell-Falik, RN, MA, is the Vice President of Patient Care Services at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. She is responsible for all administrative and clinical operations for the Departments of Nursing, Pharmacy, Anesthesia, Renal and Transplant Services, and Infection Control, as well as clinical areas including Critical Care, Medical-Surgical, Perioperative, Emergency Department, Behavioral Health, Maternal and Infant Health and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.
Ms. Shendell-Falik earned her B.S. from Rutgers College of Nursing in Newark, and her M.A. in the Delivery of Nursing Services from New York University. She is a member of the Bloomfield College of Nursing and Essex County College Advisory Boards. She served as a member of the editorial review board of The Journal of Nursing Administration from 1996-2006. She also served on the editorial board of Nursing Case Management from 1995-2002.
She was the recipient of the 2002 Governor’s Nursing Merit Award in Nursing Administration, selected as a 2003-2006 Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow and was chosen as the 2006 Nurse Executive of the Year by the Organization of Nurse Executives of New Jersey.
Nancy Shendell-Falik has fourteen publications including four book chapters and seven articles in prestigious peer reviewed nursing and healthcare journals. She has been quoted in print and media over a dozen times. She has presented locally and nationally on a broad range of topics including the hospital practice environment, nursing shortage, financial management, negotiation, delegation, case management, patient safety and strength based solutions. Proceeds from the Salute to the Policy Makers 2008 Awards Dinner will fund EWNJ’s scholarship program, which has provided over $875,000 in scholarships to more than 275 deserving New Jersey women enrolled in advanced degree programs at New Jersey institutions since instituting the program in 1986. Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) Chairman of the Board, President and CEO Ralph Izzo will serve as the event’s honorary dinner chair. Gwen Ifill, senior correspondent for “The News Hour with Jim Lehrer,” will serve as guest speaker.
Distinguished honorary chairpersons for the 2008 Award Dinner’s include Governor Jon Corzine, The Honorable Richard J. Codey, The Honorable Donald T. DiFrancesco, The Honorable Christine Todd Whitman, The Honorable James J. Florio, The Honorable Thomas H. Kean Sr., and The Honorable Brendan T. Byrne.
