 Newark, NJ – From a young age James Lee Jr., had real-life exposure to medicine, and in particular orthopedic surgery, while accompanying his father to the hospital to visit patients.
Now father and son, James M. Lee Sr., MD, and James Lee Jr., MD, have come full circle and are not only practicing together but are heading up a new Institute for Sports Medicine and Total Joint Reconstruction at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to offer complete diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic problems under one roof.
“We are privileged and honored to have this talented father-son team join our medical staff,” said John A. Brennan, MD, Executive Director of Newark Beth Israel. “Their expertise will go a long way in augmenting the services we offer for orthopedic patients throughout the region.”
Dr. Lee Sr. has been a true pioneer in the field of orthopedic surgery on a regional, national and international level. One of the first surgeons in New Jersey to begin practicing arthroscopic surgery, Dr. Lee has since performed thousands of surgeries, perfecting his technique to include cartilage and joint restoration, ligament reconstruction and fracture repair. A graduate of New York Medical College, his practice has evolved over the years to encompass sports medicine and joint replacement, especially knee and hip replacements.
His son, Dr. Lee Jr., a graduate of Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia who did his residency at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, brings an especially strong focus in sports medicine to Newark Beth Israel. His year-long training at the Nirschl Orthopaedic Center at Georgetown University gave him exposure to complex shoulder arthroscopy and reconstruction, knee ligament reconstruction, hip arthroscopy and numerous elbow disorders. In addition he served as Assistant Team Physician for George Mason University, Bishop O’Connell High School and Washington and Lee High School, all located in the D.C. metropolitan area. Both father and son are team physicians for the Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association at Barringer High School and the New Jersey and NIA Prep Basketball, both located in Newark.
The new Institute for Sports Medicine and Total Joint Reconstruction at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center will offer complete diagnosis and treatment for the range of orthopedic problems and injuries. Tapping in to the special expertise of the father and son team, it will offer enhanced services for sports medicine, sports injury and joint replacement.
