Toms River, NJ -- The Strengthening Families Program is a 14-week program involving both parents and their children and is designed to reduce risk factors and increase parenting skills, improve family organization and communication, and increase child social skills. Parents learn and practice new skills such as communication, active listening, decision making, anger management and coping.
Strengthening Families is a state-wide, evidence-based substance abuse, delinquency and family skills training program funded by the N.J. Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services.
Strengthening Families is a 14-week program involving both parents and their children and is designed to reduce risk factors and increase parenting skills, improve family organization and communication, and increase child social skills. Parents learn and practice new skills such as communication, active listening, decision making, anger management and coping.
Upon completion of the program, the Institute for Prevention (IFP) hosts a graduation celebration in which all participant families and friends are welcome to attend a special evening including dinner and a special awards ceremony for all parents and their children having completed the program.
The program is recommended for parents and caregivers, and their children between the ages of 14 and 17.
The program will be held on 14 consecutive Wednesdays beginning on Wednesday, September 22 and concluding on Wednesday, December 22 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Preferred Behavioral Health located at 700 Airport Road in Lakewood.
