The Residency

The Saint Barnabas Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency is a highly regarded and among an elite group of 21 internal medicine residency programs selected out of 388 nationwide, to participate in the Educational Innovations Project (EIP), a challenge set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the national organization responsible for accrediting residency training programs. The EIP at Saint Barnabas Medical Center involves bringing humanities to the bedside for residents in internal medicine. Ultimately this project, along with the other selected innovation projects, may help to rewrite the future of medical education and patient care for the next generation of physicians.

We attract talented residents from diverse geographic backgrounds; in addition to excelling in the medical arts, they are proficient in multiple languages, helping promote cultural sensitivity and awareness. Our graduates have gone on to fellowship training programs at elite institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Cornell, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Columbia, John's Hopkins, and Michigan.
