Robotic Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

GYNECOLOGY

Gynecology  Robotic Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical CenterThe robotic technique has allowed surgeons to offer a minimally invasive approach to their gynecology patient. Utilizing robotic technology, surgeons can treat some of gynecology's most complex problems including:

  • Removal of fibroid tumors (myomectomy)
  • Removal of the uterus (hysterectomy)
  • Correction of vaginal prolapse
  • Treatment of gynecologic cancers
  • Urogynecology

These procedures are usually performed through large abdominal incisions resulting in significant postoperative pain, blood loss and scarring.

Stephen Crane, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Stephen CraneStephen E. Crane, MD, FACOG, board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, joined the Saint Barnabas Medical Center staff in 1990. Dr. Crane serves as Secretary of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Medical Staff.  An active leader in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), he served as a Clinical Chief, on the OB/GYN Department Executive Committee, and on the OB/GYN Quality Assurance Committee. He has been chairman of the hospital’s Perinatal Review Committee since 1994.  Dr. Crane is also a member of the Medical Executive Committee. For the last three consecutive years, he has been named a "Top Doctor" by New Jersey Monthly.

Dr. Crane received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center where he received the Chief Residents’ Award.  In 2003, he was named the Clinical Instructor of the Year. Dr. Crane maintains a private practice in West Orange, N.J.

Thad Denehy, M.D.

Dr Thad DenehyAssociate Director, Division of Gynecologic Oncology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Dr. Denehy has been associate director of his department and a physician in the division of Gynecologic Oncology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Medical Center since 1990. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in 1988 and fellowships in Gynecologic Oncology at The University of Rochester's Strong Memorial Hospital, as well as at Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Addis Adaba, Ethiopia. Dr. Denehy is a member of 15 professional societies and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.

Daniel Sansobrino, M.D.

Daniel M. Sansobrino, MD, was born in East Meadow, New York. He graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Exercise Physiology. Upon graduating college, he worked as an exercise specialist at several physical fitness centers as well as cardiac rehabilitation centers in NY. During this time, he was completing his premedical requirements at New York University. Dr. Sansobrino graduated from St. George's School of Medicine and continued his post-doctoral training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.

During his training at Saint Barnabas, he trained extensively in minimally invasive surgery. He performed hundreds of procedures while training under some very well known and well respected surgeons. Dr. Sansobrino was one of the first residents at Saint Barnabas to assist on a robotic hysterectomy using the da Vinci robotic system. In 2009 he was awarded “The Special Resident in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Award” from The American Academy of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

Dr. Sansobrino was the first resident to complete training at Saint Barnabas Medical Center with full robotic surgery credentialing.

Robert R. Taylor, M.D.

Dr Robert R TaylorAssociate Director, Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Prior to joining Saint Barnabas, Dr. Taylor was in charge of the Gynecologic Oncology Division at the National Capital Uniformed Services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He was an associate professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD and assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at The Uniformed Services University and a post doctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Taylor is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.

Anthony Quartell, M.D.

Dr Anthony Quartell Dr. Quartell completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and completed postgraduate training in surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and New Jersey Medical School, College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Council for Gynecological Endoscopy and maintains a private practice at 316 Eisenhower Parkway, Suite 202, Livingston, New Jersey.
