Despite the challenges presented by the ever-changing health care environment, the year 2000 was a time of expansion and enhancement for Saint Barnabas Health Care System. Moreover, Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the other affiliates continued to lead the industry in technological advances and cutting edge medicine.

The state's largest Pediatric Critical Care Center opened at Children's Hospital of New Jersey, providing the highest quality care for young patients and families. Focusing on sophisticated emergency medical treatment, several affiliates, including Saint Barnabas and Clara Maass Medical Centers, greatly expanded their emergency departments.

To address the growing need for physical and emotional assistance for those in the final stages of life, The Center for Hospice Care opened the region's first dedicated hospice unit at Monmouth Medical Center. From a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner that produces the most advanced digital images to state-of-the-art nuclear medicine cameras, new technology enhanced diagnostic and treatment opportunities for patients.

A commitment to providing the most advanced instrumentation and efficient health care environments is our best investment for the future.

John Bonamo, M.D.
Executive Director, Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Saint Barnabas Medical Center is constantly enhancing its centers of excellence. I am proud to share a few of the Medical Center's newest developments:

  • The Emergency Department completed a $4.5 million renovation that has almost doubled the number of patient exam rooms. This department is one of the busiest emergency care facilities in the state.
  • The new Martin G. Jacobs, M.D., Transplant Institute rivals the finest transplant centers in the country. Referrals to The Renal Transplant Centers, at Saint Barnabas and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, have doubled in the last five years.
  • The HEART HOSPITAL at Saint Barnabas created a new 77-bed Cardiac Pavilion with a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, Step-Down Unit, Telemetry Unit and filmless Catheterization Suite.

Saint Barnabas Medical Center takes great pride in offering you and your family the finest medical care possible in facilities designed to enhance the patient experience.
