Livingston, N.J. --Last December, Liz and Garry Perillo, of West Caldwell, N.J., were frightened to learn that their four-year old daughter Victoria had Type 1 Diabetes. They were overwhelmed by the thought of daily insulin injections and the long-term effects the disease would have on Victoria’s health. Now, the family considers itself fortunate that Victoria was referred to Henry Anhalt, D.O., a nationally recognized pediatric endocrinologist, and the Saint Barnabas Pediatric Diabetes Program.
“Dr. Anhalt’s commitment, compassion and expertise taught the entire family about Type 1 Diabetes, says Mrs. Perillo. Though Victoria received insulin shots and stick test multiple times a day, she is a happy, fun-loving, normal child.”
On Sunday, August 14, 2005, Family Fun Day with the Newark Bears will be held to benefit the Victoria Perillo Juvenile Diabetes Fund at Saint Barnabas. The fund supports activities to enhance the lives of children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, including patient education and research. Proceeds will also benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Northern New Jersey and Rockland County.
Those in attendance can watch Dr. Anhalt throw out the first pitch and enjoy special activities such as face painting, temporary tattooing and a picture and autograph session with the Newark Bears. Kids will also have the opportunity to “Race Around the Bases” following the game.
