On June 25, 2009, Saint Barnabas Medical Center renamed the Hospital Lobby for Lore and Eric F. Ross in honor of their generous support throughout the years.  The dedication, held on Eric’s 90th birthday, was attended by his family and friends.  Lore Ross, who passed away last February, was missed and remembered on this warm June day.

“The Lobby is being named for one of the most generous couples that I have ever met,” explained Ronald J. Del Mauro, President and Chief Executive Officer, Saint Barnabas Health Care System.  “Rarely, do you have the opportunity to know individuals like Lore and Eric, so dedicated to enhancing the lives of others.  Eric and Lore made their first gift to Saint Barnabas Medical Center over 20 years ago.  Since that time, they have been among the hospital’s most generous benefactors.  Their leadership level of giving has served as an endorsement of the Medical Center and encouraged the support of countless others.”

Longtime, personal friend Leon Cooperman, Chairman of the Board of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Foundation, spoke about this remarkable couple. “Lore and Eric Ross lived the American dream.  They came here with an empty pocket and worked hard, built a successful business and later in life, chose to share their success with the community at large both globally and locally.   Andrew Carnegie once said, ‘The man who dies rich, dies disgraced.’ Eric in his quest to donate to others understands what it means to recycle his fortune in an effort to make the world a better place.  The only sad thing is that Lore isn’t still here with him.”

Eric and Lore started with very little and were able to achieve great success. Over 50 years, Eric built a successful business in polyvinyl chloride compounds (PVC) and became a recognized supplier of the medical industry.  He was a pioneer in the vinyl industry constantly looking for new products to create and ways to improve the products that existed. In 1960, he added a vinyl extrusion plant in Central Florida where Eric developed and nationally distributed, the first complete line of vinyl molding for floor installation.  Eric traveled between both plants living in a second home in Mount Dover.

Throughout their 66-year marriage, Eric and Lore had a true partnership. Each thriving in their roles, Eric was the successful businessman and Lore, a skilled and successful mother and community advocate. Lore was the consummate wife, partnering and supporting Eric every step of the way.  She was the calm force in the background.

Together, they spent their lives giving back to the community.  They gave of their time as well as financially supported numerous organizations in New Jersey and throughout the world. Representatives from many of these organizations were in attendance at the dedication.

When Mr. Ross spoke about his life and receiving this recognition he remarked that life is about the people.  He explained that you surround yourself with good people, stay true to yourself and have good relationships.  “Saint Barnabas Medical Center is an outstanding medical facility where I have received my care over the years. They have taken care of me and my wife. I am delighted and grateful for this recognition and the beautiful dedication,” he said.
